American Fix: Inside the Opioid Addiction Crisis - and How to End It

American Addiction is written by Ryan Hampton who is a political activist with the mission to bring an end to addiction in a nation plagued by the opioid crisis. He founded the VoicesProject that promotes awareness of addiction by raising the voices of those in recovery nationwide.  Ryan champions efforts to educate the government and the public that substance use disorders are not crimes but medical conditions in need of adequate treatment. American Addiction describes Ryan’s own journey through addiction, recovery, and advocacy for solutions that will bring an end to the silence and shame of addiction.

Please turn the site music down at the top of the page and listen to Ryan Hampton’s video.

“we’re addicted to our beliefs; we’re addicted to the emotions of our past. We see our beliefs as truths, not ideas that we can change. If we have very strong beliefs about something, evidence to the contrary could be sitting right in front of us, but we may not see it because what we perceive is entirely different. We’ve in fact conditioned ourselves to believe all sorts of things that aren’t necessarily true—and many of these things are having a negative impact on our health and happiness. Certain cultural beliefs”
